PROGRAM NOTE

Carmen de Sole (Song of the Sun) is written for a large male choir. The choir is divided into two, and a quartet. The text is from Georgica by Virgil. The poet of the ancient Rome tells about the structure and order of the cosmos, and about everything that happens under the sun. The ancient text was not easy to get close to, but eventually it shows, that though our conception of the cosmos has changed a lot since the Roman times, the human beings have remained almost the same.

My best thanks to professor Teivas Oksala for his valuable advice concerning Virgil, the text and the Latin language.

Carmen de Sole (Laulu auringosta) on musiikkia isolle mieskuorolle; kuoro on jaettu kahdeksi, minkä lisäksi kuorosta on erotettu kvartetti. Teksti on poimittu Vergiliuksen Georgica-runoelmasta: siinä antiikin Rooman runoilija kertoo maailman järjestyksestä sekä siitä, mitä kaikkea tapahtuu auringon alla. Muinainen teksti ei ollut helppo lähestyttävä, mutta lopulta se osoittaa, että vaikka nykyisin näemme universumin toisin, ihminen ei ole sittenkään paljoa muuttunut.
